The Acorn Centre – Our Centre was established in the 1960's by members from the local community. The original idea was to create a safe and fun space for all the children in the local area to attend. A youth hub was then created and the Acorn was born. It then went under further development when funds were raised to build the Sports Hall with the idea that this would help self fund the centre as a whole. It has now evolved into a highly popular destination for all of Torbay and offers a wide variety of Youth, Community & Sports activities for everyone to enjoy.

The Sports Hall

Our Sports Hall offers multiple use and Sporting options. We have regular Social groups and activities held in the Sports Hall and you can hire it too.

ACORN HISTORY

The Charity opened it’s doors in 1965. It was brought about by the local community as they wanted to create a safe space for all the children in the local area to attend and enjoy. As the years went by The Acorn soon became a thriving hotspot and attracted people from all over Torbay. Further opportunities were created through raising money and the Sports Hall was created. The Charity changed to include the youth and the community to then enjoy. This year (2025) marks our 60th anniversary and we are still going strong. Having just been awarded a Youth Investment Fund to help us improve our youth provisions there is no stopping us.

Opposite is a short video that includes Marilyn, previous Manager and matriarch of The Acorn Centre. Marilyn was a beacon of light for our community and helped hundreds of local families during her reign. Sadly she is no longer with us but her spirit lives on throughout the centre.

So why not drop in for a drink and a bite to eat or to use one of the fantastic facilities we have to offer.

Volunteering Opportunities

At the Acorn we always welcome new volunteers and we have roles to suit everyone. Volunteering is an extremely special gift and we know that your time is precious. If you have spare time to help out with your local charity we would be very grateful. Anyone who frequents the centre will know how enormous it is and the upkeep of the building is a massive task with such a small team.
